Biography

Génesis Álvarez Rosario is a doctoral student in the Beatriz Lassalle Graduate School of Social Work and a research assistant for Centro de Investigaciones Sociales (CIS) at the University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras. Álvarez Rosario holds a bachelor’s and a masters’ in Social Work. At CIS, she is a graduate fellow for the City of San Juan in the National Science Foundation (NSF) Urban Resilience to Extremes Sustainability Research Network. Her research within UREx focuses on evaluating adaptive and transformative strategies proposed by city decision-makers and stakeholders.

Génesis also worked as a research assistant for the projects ‘Integrating Traditional and Formal Knowledge: A Community Education Program on Climate Change for Puerto Rico’, funded by NOAA, and, ‘Efficacy of Informal Science Education Practices to Develop Hispanic Citizen Scientists in the Watershed of the Río Grande of Manatí’, funded by NSF.
