Biography

Elizabeth Wheaton is an environmental and sustainability planning professional that is dedicated to fostering the community's environmental stewardship, protecting natural resources, adapting to climate change, and improving overall sustainability.

She is proficient at developing and implementing sustainability programs, climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies and environmental leadership initiatives within the City of Miami Beach. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Friends of the Everglades, founded in 1969 by renowned journalist, author, and environmental activist Marjory Stoneman Douglas. The mission of Friends is to preserve, protect, and restore the only Everglades in the world. To accomplish these ends, I work with Friends' Education Committee to further the organization's mission to educate the next generation of environmental leaders and extend the group's reach through improving its social media presence.

Her specialties include participation in the Southeast Climate Change Compact, project management of planning and design for coastal portion of the Atlantic Greenway Network to improve alternative transportation facilities, and improving municipal environmental compliance.
