UREx and SRn members accepting Award from the Ecological Society of AmericaUrban Resilience to Extremes Sustainability Research Network (UREx SRN) were recipients of an award from the Ecological Society of America.

Winners of the award are recognized for their “outstanding contributions to ecology in new discoveries, teaching, sustainability, diversity, and lifelong commitment to the profession,” according to an ESA announcement.

Four UREx SRN team members won the 2019 Sustainability Science Award from the ESA:

—Co-Director Nancy Grimm, Arizona State University School of Life Sciences

—Executive Team Member Timon McPhearson, The New School

—External Advisory Member Steward TA Pickett, Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies

—External Advisory Member Thomas Elmqvist, Stockholm University

"McPhearson and colleagues provide an international perspective on how ecological research focused on urban areas can improve sustainability," the ESA announcement stated, noting a journal article the team produced that was particularly impactful: "Advancing urban ecology towards a science of cities."
