MetroTech teacher workshop

Today we had our second MetroTech teacher workshop. This time, we focused primarily on ways that non-science teachers could integrate sustainability issues and ideas into their classrooms. Many of the teachers did not feel that their subjects linked to sustainability; however, with some creative thinking, we got math and social studies teachers to see ways that they could use information or facts about sustainability in their assignments. If we know that we lose an area of rainforest 29 times the size of the Pentagon every minute…and we know how big the pentagon is, then how much do we lose in an hour? The teachers left with a better understanding about how the non-science based parts of sustainability such as equity and social justice can fit into any class while teaching any number of different themes.
