Sandra Rodegher is a Senior Program Coordinator for the Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiatives (WSSI) at Arizona State University and the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability and a Faculty Associate at the School of Sustainability. At WSSI, Dr. Rodegher works specifically on the Sustainability in Science Museums program where she creates content, facilitates trainings, conducts research, presents at conferences, and teaches courses aimed at promoting sustainability science and practice in museum contexts.
Dr. Rodegher has developed and is teaching two courses (for undergraduate and graduate students) this past spring and summer semester of 2016. She also took lead on designing curriculum, evaluation metrics, and facilitated the first ever Sustainability in Science Museums Fellowship. Twenty-five fellows representing five continents and twelve countries attended the fellowship, each learning how to develop place-specific actionable projects that can be executed at their respective museums. She has also created a board game where players learn about the critical components of sustainable decision-making and then practice those principles via particular game objectives.
As an interdisciplinary researcher and scholar Dr. Rodegher employs a combination of ethical analysis, ethnography, and experimental research to enhance understanding and implementation of ethical and just participation in deliberative scenario planning processes. Her research focuses on participative processes embedding in scenario planning and the ability of society and social dynamics to shape how or if people contribute and engage in discourse. Specifically, she explores factors that hinder or foster authentic participation in individuals and groups with differing degrees of social power.
In 2004 she completed an MA in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of New Haven where her research focused on group dynamics. She obtained her PhD in Sustainability from Arizona State University. Her PhD dissertation, entitled Scenario Planning for Sustainability: Understanding and Enhancing Participation in Group Deliberations integrated her prior training in group dynamics with future-oriented, deliberative processes in service of supporting more just sustainability discourse in service of more equitable long-term decision making.
