Climate Change and Energy: How Can Justice be Achieved for Young People and Nature?

Renowned climate scientist James Hansen was legendary during his long career as NASA’s chief climatologist for being ahead of the curve on seeing the threat of catastrophic climate change.
Hansen was elected to the National Academy of Sciences for his pioneering radiative transfer models and studies of planetary atmospheres; developing simplified and three-dimensional global climate models; explaining climate forcing mechanisms; analyzing current climate trends from observational data; and projecting anthropogenic impacts on the global climate system. He has received many awards including the Sophie and Blue Planet Prizes.
He is widely considered to be the father of global climate change awareness and has become a climate activist, which, on a few occasions, has led to his arrest.
Hansen calls the December 2015 Paris climate negotiations "one of the greatest frauds in history," arguing that world leaders "only pretended to initiate actions to address climate change." In this talk, Hansen will consider what he believes is needed to avoid tragedy and injustice to young people.
