Biography

Naoko Hirayama is a visiting scholar at Arizona State University and is working with researchers from Decision Center for a Desert City of the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability. Dr. Hirayama is visiting from The University of Shiga Prefecture, Japan, where she is an Assistant Professor in the School of Environmental Studies and previously earned her PhD in Environmental Sciences in the School’s Division of Environmental Policy and Planning. 

Dr. Hirayama’s research focuses on environmental policy science. Areas of research interest include connecting the environmental values the local population has for water to local water management policy; assessing a system for partnerships among governmental agencies, NGOs, the local population, and private corporations for the conservation of the Lake Biwa basin and other water bodies in Japan; and developing effective communication with stakeholders for agricultural water management.
