Joseph Zehnder is currently Chair and Professor in the Department of Atmospheric Sciences at Creighton University. He is a former professor in the Department of Geography and Department of Mathematics at ASU. Prior to coming to ASU, Dr. Zehnder was posted as an assistant and then associate professor in the Departments of Atmospheric Sciences and Applied Mathematics at the University of Arizona. He is a member of the steering committee for World Meteorological Organization Committee on Tropical Meteorology and Forecasting, co-director of Interdisciplinary Certificate Program in Atmospheric Science at Arizona State University, and was the Co-PI on the EPIC 2001 field experiment.



Research focus includes:
  • large and mesoscale dynamic meteorology with an emphasis on tropical and semi arid subtropical regions
  • urban climate and weather
  • use of remotely sensed data for model initialization and validation
