Biography

Cynthia Margarita Tompkins, is Professor of Spanish at the School of International Letters and Cultures at Arizona State University-Tempe, where she offers courses on contemporary Latin American literature, film, feminism, and theory. She is the current Faculty Head of Spanish and Portuguese and directs the Undergraduate Certificate in Latin American Studies. In addition to her latest book, Experimental Latin American Cinema: History and Aesthetics (U of Texas P, 2013, 294 pp), she has authored Latin American Postmodernisms: Women Writers and Experimentation (UP of Florida: Gainesville, Florida, 2006, 226 pages) and co-authored a number of books on Latin America, including two translations. Her work on Latin American Film, Women Writers, Feminism and Cultural Production has appeared in the most respected refereed journals. Tompkins is currently working on a book titled Affect and Emotion in the Representation of Indigenous Peoples in Argentine Cinema (1917-2015), which has led her to focus on Indigenous Peoples and the struggle for cultural and environmental sustainability. Finally, Tompkins is the Editor of Imagofagia, the Journal of the Argentine Association of Film and Media Studies (ASAECA).
