Biography

Anna Bettis is a Senior Program Coordinator at Arizona State University’s School of Sustainability. In this role, Anna coordinates executive and professional sustainability education delivered through custom training programs, open-enrollment (non-degree) programs and partnerships directed at companies, governments and nonprofits.

Prior to joining the School of Sustainability, Anna served as the inaugural Resident Scholar for the Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust, one of the largest private foundations in Arizona which provides grants and capacity building to nonprofits that enrich community health, well-being and opportunity. As a Resident Scholar, Anna reported to the President and managed projects to strengthen community organizations, build partnerships and address socio-economic vulnerabilities. In her previous roles with Arizona State University she conducted research for the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability, managed social-impact programs for Changemaker Central and assisted with accounting in the Office of the President.

During her undergraduate studies she focused on the unique sustainability challenges faced by developing countries. As a Walton Global Solutions Initiatives Scholar, she traveled to the Ecuadorian Amazon to study the impacts of oil development on indigenous communities. She worked with a community collaborative in the Verde Valley to co-create her graduate research to elucidate the success factors of partnerships among NGOs and government agencies aiming to improve land and water management sustainability.
