Biography

Professor Andreas Spanias' main area of interest is Digital Signal Processing (DSP). His contributions in the field include various signal analysis methods for compression, de-noising, detection, and enhancement. His research has been sponsored by industry and government labs such as Freescale, Intel, Motorola, Raytheon, Sandia and the National Science Foundation. He consulted in DSP with TI, Microchip, Airbiguity, Lucent, Inter-Tel, and the CING. His work in audio coding was recognized by an IEEE field series award. He is currently directing the Sensor and Information Processing (SenSIP) center and industry consortium (NSF I/UCRC), and he served as associate director of the School of Arts, Media and Engineering from 2004 to 2011. He was elected IEEE signal processing Distinguished Lecturer, and he serves in the IEEE SPS governing, planning and editorial boards. He is fellow of the IEEE. He has one established patent and seven pending.
