Biography

Dana Desonie has been a science writer and editor for more than two decades, writing books, book chapters, and articles, primarily in the earth and environmental sciences, and editing proposals and manuscripts in many fields. She has also taught college-level geology, oceanography and technical writing for geologists, including at Arizona State University.  She came to the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability in December 2015 as a grant writer and editor. She is now proposal manager to better help principal investigators to create winning grant proposals.

Although her life as a research scientist is long past, she still loves reading about the research going on in sustainability. For her doctoral and postdoctoral work, she studied the geochemistry and geochronology of oceanic volcanic rocks, spending about one year at sea in all. She even went down to 10,000-foot depth in the small research sub Alvin to 10,000 feet along the East Pacific Rise!  For her master’s thesis she worked on the geologic history of Isla San Esteban, a small volcanic island in the Gulf of California.
