Biography

Todd Sandrin earned his Ph.D. in environmental science with a focus on environmental microbiology from The University of Arizona. He held academic positions at Arizona and the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh before arriving at ASU in 2008. Dr. Sandrin serves as an associate professor in the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences and as Associate Dean in New College.  In addition, he serves as Director of New College's undergradaute research program, NCUIRE (http://ncuire.asu.edu).

Dr. Sandrin's research resides at intersections of microbiology and chemistry.  As a broadly trained microbiologist with expertise applying state-of-the-art approaches, he is interested in ways to: 1) enhance beneficial aspects of microorganisms (e.g., biodegradation of harmful chemical pollutants) and 2) develop approaches to mitigate negative effects of microorganisms (e.g., disease, microbial contamination of water).  Tools his group commonly employs fall within the realm of proteomics and functional genomics.  A proteomics and functional genomics core facility at ASU's  West campus facilitates this type of research.
