Biography

Shane Johnson is currently a tenured Senior Research Scientist (Academic Professional) at Arizona State University, and has 15 years experience in the area of III-V semiconductor device design and fabrication. His research includes the development of semiconductor optical refrigerators, vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers using Sb based active materials, closed-loop control of epitaxial growth using spectroscopic ellipsometry and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (a non-contact thermometry technique he developed), as well as optoelectronic device and optical engineering development work for local industry. Dr. Johnson has published over 60 refereed journal articles, has contributed to over 100 conference papers, abstracts, and invited presentations, and has 4 issued US patents. He was awarded the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada Postdoctoral Fellowship (1996-1998) and is a member of the American Physical Society, the International Society for Optical Engineering, and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and serves as the LEOS society representative on the IEEE Wave and Devices Phoenix Chapter.
