Peter R. Buseck, an ASU Regents Professor, is a member of the School of Earth and Space Exploration, the School of Molecular Sciences, and the John M. Cowley Center for High Resolution Electron Microscopy. His degrees are from Antioch College and Columbia University, and he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Geophysical Laboratory in Washington, DC. At Arizona State University he won the Graduate College Outstanding Graduate Mentor award and was named a Graduate College Distinguished Research Fellow. He and his students conduct research on: (1) the nature of natural and anthropogenic aerosol particles, their chemical and physical reactions (e.g., deliquescence, efflorescence) in the atmosphere, and their effects on air quality and climate change; (2) crystal structures and defects in minerals at the atomic level using high-resolution transmission electron microscopy; and (3) the geochemistry and mineralogy of meteorites (carbonaceous chondrites, enstatite chondrites, pallasites, etc.). He has had visiting appointments at Oxford, Stanford, the University of Paris (VI, VII), and Harvard and was Assistant to the Director of the U.S. National Science Foundation in 1994-95. He is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Geological Society of America, the Meteoritical Society, and the Mineralogical Society of America.
