Biography

Patricia Reiter served as the director of strategic initiatives for the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory, and formerly the executive director of the Rob and Melani Walton Sustainability Solutions Service. Since 2012, the Walton Initiatives have evolved into seven programs with a combined budget of over $38M under Patricia’s leadership. The hallmark program, the Walton Global Sustainability Solutions Service created teams comprised of faculty, practitioners and students that solved sustainability challenges through 89 projects based in nine countries on five continents.

Patricia led the implementation of three unique education programs: the Executive Master of Sustainability Leadership program, which was designed by professionals for professionals and now has over 100 alumni and current students equipped to lead change within their industries; Global Sustainability Studies classes with scholarships that allowed 534 students, some of whom couldn’t have participated without support, to work in 20 countries; and the Sustainability Fellowship program, which has engaged 33 high level practitioners and visiting scholars to explore new approaches to sustainability challenges.

Patricia also supervised the design and implementation of three distinct outreach programs that leverage trusted institutions and business partners. The Sustainability Solutions Festival has reached over 100,000 participants and has grown from one week to an entire month of events including GreenBiz Forum, Global Reporting Initiative North American Summit, Second Nature Climate Summit for University and College Presidents, World Business Council for Sustainable Development and the Arizona Science Center. The National Teachers’ Academy was created to embed sustainability projects in schools and communities in all 50 states. Due to the success of the program, Wells Fargo committed an additional $500K to create a regional model. Since this initiative began in 2015 these two programs have reached 653 teachers with183 projects completed and over 78,000 students engaged. Similarly, the Sustainability in Science Museums program has generated unexpected interest and engagement and has reached 143 museums in all 50 states and 32 countries with potential reach of over 70 million people.

Since 2005, Patricia has held various leadership roles at ASU with the ASU Foundation and the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability. Prior to joining ASU, she led large teams of staff and consultants delivering complex construction projects.

Patricia holds bachelor’s degrees in fine arts and architecture from the University of Tennessee and an MBA from Simmons Graduate School of Business in Boston.
