Biography

Emily Mertz is a biological anthropologist that has a passion for conservation, wildlife biology, and animal welfare. These areas are intrinsically interdisciplinary and require organizational leadership, which directed her to the interdisciplinary and organizational leadership program at Arizona State University. Mertz’s specialized skill set that includes extensive teaching experience, the advising and mentoring of students with diverse backgrounds and academic interests, and sustainability/anthropological research focus, which includes wide-ranging international travel and global perspective, all have afforded her with strong interdisciplinary and multicultural competencies that complement one another. The spectrum of subjects that she has studied throughout her academic career has provided her with a broad working knowledge of various topics and the ability to integrate different fields. Moreover, a doctorate in an expansive field such as anthropology with an emphasis in conservation has afforded her with the knowledge and skills to help others develop analytical and communicative abilities in solving global problems and addressing contemporary societal issues, while appreciating and respecting the value of cultural diversity.
