Biography
Craig W. Kirkwood is Professor in the Supply Chain Management Department at Arizona State University, as well as a former department chair and acting dean in the ASU W. P. Carey School of Business. Prior to joining ASU, he was manager of the decision analysis group at Woodward-Clyde Consultants, San Francisco and on the engineering faculties at the University of Colorado and the University of Michigan. His research interests include large scale decision analysis models, decision analysis using partial or approximate information, and performance metrics for supply chain networks. He has conducted decision and risk analysis studies to support decision making in a variety of areas including research and development planning, evaluation of technological alternatives, risk analysis for hazardous and radioactive materials management, site selection for large facilities, risk assessment for project management, and risk management for infrastructure planning.
Dr. Kirkwood received S.B., S.M., E.E., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering and operations research from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has published widely on topics related to quantitative analysis to support decision making under uncertainty, including the book Strategic Decision Making. He has served on several NSF panels, including the Advisory Panel for the Decision, Risk, and Management Science Program, Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I Panel, and the Design Theory Review Panel. He served on the U. S. Department of Energy expert panel on inadvertent intrusion into the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant. Dr. Kirkwood has served in numerous professional leadership roles, including Treasurer for both the Operations Research Society of America and the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) and President of the INFORMS Decision Analysis Society. He is a Fellow of INFORMS, and other awards he has received include the Frank P. Ramsey Medal of the INFORMS Decision Analysis Society for lifetime achievement and both the Decision Analysis Society Publication and Practice Awards, as well as the George E. Kimball Medal of INFORMS for distinguished service.
