Biography

Alvin Mushkatel has held faculty positions and taught at St. John's University in Minnesota, the University of Missouri St. Louis, and the University of Denver. Dr. Mushkatel has been a member of the faculty at Arizona State University (ASU) since 1980. Before coming to the ASU Polytechnic campus, he was a professor of Public Affairs and professor of Planning at the ASU Tempe campus. Mushkatel served as the director of the interdisciplinary Doctor of Public Administration program, as well as the MPA program. He also headed the Bachelor of Science program in Planning during its accreditation review. He is currently a Professor of Environmental Policy in Applied Biological Sciences at the Polytechnic campus. Mushkatel has authored/co-authored numerous books on nuclear-waste policy and more than a dozen governmental monographs for the National Research Council/National Academy of Science. He has extensive experience in managing large funded research projects and has served on a large number of local, state, and national governmental commissions. His work has received awards including the Aaron Wildavsky Book Award, the National Research Council Award of Appreciation, and the Governor's Spirit of Excellence Award in Public Service. He also has served as an expert witness in proceedings of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
