This professional certificate program will be offered on the ASU Tempe campus and hosted by an industry sustainability leader, Bruno Sarda, who is also an instructional lead for ASU’s Executive Master of Sustainability Leadership (EMSL) program. Sessions will be facilitated by industry leaders as well as faculty experts from both the W. P. Carey School of Business and the ASU School of Sustainability.
This proven workshop will not be a theoretical or gloom-and-doom treatment of sustainability, but instead will explore several core areas of opportunity.
Participants will leave with a certificate from ASU and a professional cohort of peers that will form their new sustainability network. The program also includes multiple weeks of follow-up activities after the initial three days.
- Craft and adopt drivers of sustainability and resiliency into organizational practice

- Global Context to Organizational Practice
This session will focus on sustainability concepts with a focus on how to interpret the global context to prioritize organizational goals and actions. We will demystify various sustainability frameworks, from the SDGs to the TCFD, and learn how to use them to inform the “what” of sustainability in an organizational frame. This will include a review on the important role of stakeholders, how to define and measure success and tangible examples to learn from.
- Leadership and Management
This session will focus on people and both individual and organizational needs. Emphasis will be placed on principles of change management, opportunities for organizational and individual influence to empower employees, core competencies embodied by professional sustainability change agents, and fostering leadership in dynamic organizations.
- Sustainable Storytelling
The most effective leaders in sustainability know how to clarify their stories to amplify their impact and engage others. But most practitioners default to meaningless stats, facts charts and graphs. Professionals in this immersive sustainable storytelling session will learn and apply proven narrative techniques to create effective and meaningful communications that will increase their influence, build rapport fast and enhance their authenticity and persuasiveness to advance their social initiatives further, faster.
- Making the Business Case for Investments in Sustainability
How does an organization make the business case for sustainability investments? In this session we will explore the “hard” and “soft” sides of decision-making about evaluating the financial potential of sustainability projects. We will examine financial business cases to assess and justify efforts addressing eco-efficiency (energy, water, and waste) as well as natural capital and conservation, carbon offsets, supply risk, reputation risk, and ethical sourcing within the context of supply chain financing.
- Sustainability Strategy
As sustainability becomes a core strategic goal of any organization, it impacts all aspects of the organization. This session explores the interface between strategy and sustainability that underpins authentic and transparent strategic efforts. Participants explore how sustainable design concepts can be used to leverage their product and customer/client service while minimizing/eliminating wasted resources, time and talent.

This seminar was designed for mid-career professionals in the private sector, representing a diversity of roles, ranks, company sizes and industries.
