Sander van der Leeuw: 2012 United Nations Champion of the Earth

Transcript

Video vignettes of the 2012 Champions of the Earth, organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), were produced for the June 4 award ceremony in Rio de Janeiro. In this video, Sander van der Leeuw, the 2012 Champion of the Earth in the science and innovation category, and the dean of the School of Sustainability at Arizona State University, talks about his research, sustainability and what the award means to him.

This interview was videotaped on ASU’s Tempe campus at the Museum of Anthropology in the School of Human Evolution and Social Change. It also features exterior images of Wrigley Hall, home to ASU’s School of Sustainability and the Global Institute of Sustainability, as well as images of the many rooftop solar installations across campus.

The vignette was produced by David Koch in the Division of Communication and Public Information at the United Nations Environment Programme in Nairobi, Kenya, and Carol Hughes at ASU. The ASU video team included Ruben Tinoco, Kenneth Fagan and James Daniels. The UNEP editor was Chris Mungai.
