Since ancient times, civilizations have struggled to control water, wringing every drop out of this precious resource. Yet today, a combination of climate change and a growing population have made freshwater resources scarcer than ever.
In this video, a group of panelists, scientists, and public policymakers discuss how shifting climate patterns are stressing our freshwater resources and how we can develop better, more sustainable water practices. The conversation is moderated by Anne Thompson, NBC News chief environmental affairs correspondent. The event is hosted by Arizona State University, NBC Learn (the educational arm of NBC News), National Science Foundation, and DISCOVER magazine. It is the third in a series of town hall discussions focused on climate change produced by NBC Learn in partnership with NSF and DISCOVER.
Speakers include Bill Richardson, former governor of New Mexico; Patricia Mulroy, general manager, Southern Nevada Water Authority; Grady Gammage Jr., senior sustainability scholar, ASU Global Institute of Sustainability, and senior research fellow, ASU Morrison Institute for Public Policy; and Heidi Cullen, host, Forecast Earth, and research scientist and correspondent, Climate Central.
