- Senegal Community Outreach Specialist, Global Locust Initiative
Alana Burnham is a team member of GLI’s USAID-funded project Communities for Sustainable Agriculture, known as Bay Sa Waar in Wolof. She leads the creation of outreach materials for project beneficiaries in Senegal and larger Western Africa. In addition, she coordinates on-the-ground activities in Senegal, facilitates communication with stakeholders, and completes project documentation and reports. Alana also provides operational support to the wider GLI Laboratories.
As an Agroforestry Extension Agent with the US Peace Corps, Alana lived and worked in rural communities in northern Senegal, where she quickly became skilled in Wolof, the predominant local language. She subsequently served as the Volunteer Leader of Agroforestry Agents, improving and implementing training of new Agroforestry and Agriculture Volunteers. During her time, she contributed to the creation of a new framework for Peace Corps Senegal’s Agroforestry Project.
Alana has a passion for engaging communities in research and working towards a more sustainable future, which drew her to join GLI after her Peace Corps service.
