What is Sustainability’s Future Impact (And, Will It be Enough)?

Timothy M. Smith

  • Professor, University of Minnesota

Timothy Smith is a professor of sustainable systems management and international business and the founding director of the NorthStar Initiative for Sustainable Enterprise at the Institute on the Environment. He is an internationally recognized scholar, working closely with business, nonprofit, and governmental practitioners to develop integrative approaches to sustainable systems performance measurement and decision-making in production-consumption systems. His work has been published in Proceedings of the National Academies of Science, Nature Sustainability, Environmental Science & Technology, and Global Environmental Change, among others.

In this seminar, Smith will introduce new spatiotemporal approaches toward “prospective” models of sustainability performance in food and energy systems. Findings highlight the importance of projecting the impacts of placing the right technologies in the right places at the right time and the need for greater transparency of current impact-innovation spending.

A light lunch will be provided.
