Sustainability as Freedom

Thomas Friedman

  • Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author
  • New York Times Columnist

In celebration of Julie Ann Wrigley’s global leadership in sustainability, we are honored to announce that Pulitzer Prize-winning author Thomas Friedman will be speaking at ASU.

In this talk, "Sustainability as Freedom," Friedman will argue that what freedom was to our parents' generation, sustainability is to the present generation.

Friedman is renowned for his direct reporting and sophisticated analysis of complex issues facing the world. He has authored several award-winning books including: Hot, Flat and Crowded: Why We Need a Green Revolution — and How It Can Renew America; The World is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-First Century; and, most recently, That Used to Be Us: How America Fell Behind in the World It Invented and How We Can Come Back.

Ranked #2 on The Wall Street Journal's list of Influential Business Thinkers, named to the 2011 Thinkers50 and Foreign Policy's 2013 list of Leading Global Thinkers, and considered one of "America's Best Leaders" by US News & World Report, Friedman is a frequent guest on programs such as Meet The Press, Morning Joe and Charlie Rose.
