With a wide range of missions in support of the Nation's defense and civil-works infrastructure, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has unique opportunities and challenges in integrating sustainable practices into its operations.
Karen Baker helped lead the Army team that authored the Army Strategy for the Environment, the federal government's first sustainability strategy. In this talk, she will draw from this experience, as well as from her 20 years as a Department of Army civilian, to discuss why sustainable principles are important to our national security. Specifically, she will highlight the Army Corp's recent successes in energy efficiency, water conservation, sustainable acquisition, and fleet management.
