Reimagining Transportation: How Will We Navigate Phoenix in the Future

Local nonprofit "Friends of Transit" and Arizona State University School of Sustainability invite undergraduate and graduate students to rethink transportation in the Phoenix metro area with a friendly competition for cash prizes.

The competition is open to any college student or student team. Individuals or teams must prepare a presentation no more than 10 minutes long on attainable changes that could be made to the existing transportation network to improve community access, health and walkability throughout the Phoenix Metro area. Teams will present to and answer questions from competition judges. Competitors are encouraged to be as creative as possible and may use any technology, props or materials they wish, provided they clear all IT/AV and space needs with the contest organizer.

Competitors must reserve a 30-minute slot at a pre-screening event on Tuesday, November 31, using the attached PDF. Slots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis between the times of 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. The deadline to register for the competition is Friday, January 27 at 11:59 p.m..

The leading teams after the pre-screening event will receive coaching from contest judges to help them perfect their presentations before they compete at the “Friends of Transit” Annual Conference on Friday, February 17, 2017 from 8:00 a.m.-1 p.m. in front of 300 conference attendees. Conference attendees will vote to choose the winning teams based on the innovation and implementation reality of their presentation and performance during a question and answer session with the panel of judges.

The top three teams will be awarded cash prizes sponsored by the Arizona Transit Association (AzTA):

$2,000 for first place
$1,000 for second and
$500 for third.
