In this day-long "learning-by-doing event," co-facilitated by Jennifer Jewiss , world-renowned evaluator Michael Quinn Patton will workshop four, large-scale ASU initiatives or grant projects. Each team’s project, selected in weeks before the class, will be discussed in depth in a facilitated exercise observed by an audience sitting “in the round” (based on the Master Class model often used in music). Attendees will have ample opportunity to interact as each project is workshopped. Project representatives and audience members will engage in critical and creative reflection and experience the interdisciplinary practice of measuring transformative systems change.

The Master Class offers the ASU community the opportunity to learn from a top international evaluation expert about why transformative leadership, initiatives, and projects require that we “think like an evaluator.” The class will: 1) define transformation, 2) assess whether a particular project is transformative, and 3) measure change in more meaningful ways than the constraining metrics of outputs allow. We invite audience members to “listen in” as Michael Quinn Patton works with each of the four groups in order to learn how they might strengthen or re-design their own projects, initiatives, and grant applications.

Jennifer Jewiss, Ed.D. specializes in the use of qualitative research and evaluation methods to help leaders in government agencies and not-for-profit organizations design new programs and improve existing initiatives.

A light breakfast and lunch will be served throughout the day. Seating will be limited.
