Managing Earth as a Planet

How Astrobiology and Exploration Inform a Perspective of Planetary Stewardship

The Origins Project at Arizona State University and ASU PlanetWorks are proud to present a public discussion of how space exploration, planetary science and astrobiology - the search for life in the universe - inform our perspective of Earth as a planet, and how to manage it as an integrated planetary system. In this 90-minute event these themes will be explored by the following four panelists:

  • David Grinspoon, astrobiologist, senior scientist at the Planetary Science Institute, and author of Earth in Human Hands
  • John Grunsfeld, former NASA astronaut and veteran of five Space Shuttle flights, including two Hubble Space Telescope servicing missions, and former NASA chief scientist
  • Hilairy Hartnett, professor in the School of Earth and Space Exploration and the School of Molecular Sciences and senior sustainability scientist, Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability
  • Jane Long, of the Breakthrough Institute, former principal associate director at large of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and chair of the California’s Energy Future committee of the California Council on Science and Technology
The panel will be moderated by Lawrence Krauss, director of the Origins Project.

The event is open to the public and free of charge.

This event is being put on as part of the 2017 Astrobiology Science Conference.
