Transformational change on and off campus

Sustainability Series

John Robinson

  • Executive Director, UBC Sustainability Initiative
  • Professor, Institute for Resources, Environment and Sustainability, & Department of Geography
  • University of British Columbia

In January 2010, the University of British Columbia created the UBC Sustainability Initiative to integrate academic and operational sustainability on campus. Its two crosscutting themes are: campus as a living laboratory of sustainability, and university as agent of change in the community. The goal is to achieve transformational changes in university teaching, research, and operations, in partnership with like- minded private, public, and non-governmental organizations.

Robinson’s research focuses on the intersection of climate change mitigation, adaptation, and sustainability; the use of visualization, modeling, and citizen engagement to explore sustainable futures; and sustainable buildings and urban design.
