Dr. Karletta Chief (Diné) researches water in arid regions of Arizona and uses that knowledge in culturally sensitive ways to empower Native American communities.

In this talk, Dr. Chief will discuss Indigenous Food, Energy, and Water Security and Sovereignty or Indigi-FEWSS -- a graduate-student training program working with indigenous communities. In particular, Indigi-FEWSS recruits first-generation and minority students seeking to make a difference in developing communities. The program aims to develop novel and sustainable solutions for off-grid production of safe drinking water, brine-management operations, and controlled-environment agriculture systems.
