Sustainable Pest Management:
A Challenge for Global Food Security

Alex Latchininsky has devoted 36 years of his professional career to study and manage the ancient enemies of agriculture—grasshoppers and locusts. He is an international consultant with the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization and conducts research and training across the world. As an extension entomologist, he is at the forefront of pest management topics in Wyoming and across the West.
Grasshopper and locust outbreaks occur on every continent except Antarctica, cause devastating consequences for food security for millions globally, and often exacerbate other issues such as drought or conflict. In this talk, Latchininsky will discuss major impediments to sustainable pest management and approaches to overcome these challenges in the US and globally.
