Toward a Sustainable Future: More Management, Less Technology

Ricardo Aguirre

  • Founder, Holistic Engineering and Land Management, Inc.

Degraded land (desertification) occurs in an ecosystem out of balance, where both water and nutrient cycles have become ineffective. To mitigate these symptoms, engineers continue to use “Band-Aid” strategies that adversely impact the environment while imposing high initial and reoccurring costs.

In contrast, Ricardo Aguirre aims to integrate natural processes into his engineering projects, Two approaches are to mimic nature through water harvesting and to increase the organic matter of soil.

In his talk, Aguirre will discuss historic land conditions, pressing water security challenges, animal impacts, and ways you can get involved.

A light lunch will be served.
