Audubon Arizona Webinar: Understanding Arizona’s Groundwater

(Wednesday, September 22, 2020) Groundwater makes up 40% of Arizona's total water use. How much do you know about it? Groundwater provides a sustained flow to desert rivers in between rain and snowmelt, and it's the source of water in springs and wells. Outside of the populous central part of the state, there are generally few restrictions on how much groundwater can be pumped, and few tools for managing its use. This potentially affects the water future of as many as 1.5 million Arizonans. Unlimited extraction can have detrimental effects on communities, rivers, and habitat-all of which depend on sustaining local groundwater levels. Join Haley Paul of the National Audubon Society and Jocelyn Gibbon of Freshwater Policy Consulting as we learn more about groundwater, its value to our state and rural communities, how it is managed, and how we might start to work towards solutions to current challenges. From 12:00-1:15 p.m. MST (AZ) via Zoom. More information and registration.
