Webinar: How do Policy Makers Access and Use Evidence to Address Complex
Problems
(Wednesday, November 13, 2019) Science is foundational to life and the planet as we know it.
Policymakers understand this, as do scientists. However the boundary-spanning between policymakers
and scientists does not come naturally. Given the current vulnerabilities faced by places, people,
ecosystems, and markets, it is essential to create more opportunities for policymakers and scientists to
work effectively together. This webinar, from the Security and Sustainability Forum, National Council
for Science and the Environment, and School of Sustainability at ASU, will explore examples that
demonstrate how evidence can more effectively serve decision-making. From 12:30-2:00 PM EST

ASU researchers working to extract clean fuel from sunlight
One of the most consequential questions of our time is: How do we generate enough energy to meet
our needs? The question is particularly important as previously reliable sources of energy, such as oil
and coal, have been proven to pollute our planet with consequences ranging from a degrading air
quality to a tilt in the fragile balance of the global climate. In an effort to address the question,
researchers from the Biodesign Center for Applied Structural Discovery at Arizona State University are
exploring new technologies that could generate alternate methods of energy to satisfy global demand.

University of Idaho McCall Field Campus and Outdoor Science School
The mission of the University of Idaho McCall Field Campus and Outdoor Science School is to
transform individuals and communities through innovative research and educational experiences.
We envision vibrant, inclusive communities, empowered to ask difficult questions and transform ways
of thinking, to compassionately sustain the social and ecological systems that provide for all of us. We
are building the next cohort of graduate students to join us in this work and are seeking individuals
from diverse backgrounds who are interested in developing their capacity as educators, science
