Sustainability Storytelling: Short Documentaries from Peter Byck’s Class: 10th Edition

(Friday, April 27, 2018) Join us for the annual screening of two short films created by students from the School of Sustainability and Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, under the direction of sustainability scientist and director of Carbon Nation™, Peter Byck.           Volunteers Needs for Tree Planting

(Saturday, April 28, 2018) Arizona Sustainability Alliance (AZSA) is partnering with Tree Matters to do a tree planting from 7:00-10:00 a.m. The project is funded by International Paper. The event will take place at The New School for the Arts & Academics in Tempe. AZSA will plant 19 trees with the help of our arborist. These trees will contribute to Tempe's Urban Forestry Master Plan. If you are interested in volunteering and learning how to plant trees, please sign up here.

          Green Infrastructure Workshop in Tempe

(Saturday, April 28, 2018) Watershed Management Group is excited to team up with the City of Tempe, River Network, and Four Peaks Brewing to install a rain garden at Grove of Arizona Cities and Towns Park in Tempe that will utilize stormwater from the street to irrigate native desert and adapted low water use trees and shrubs. The rain garden will provide shade and beautify the streetscape while capturing and cleaning stormwater. From 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. near Rio Salado Parkway and Hardy Drive.           2018 Next Generation Water Summit

(Sunday-Tuesday, April 29-May 1, 2018) The 2nd annual Next Generation Water Summit focuses on water conservation and water reuse in the arid Southwest. It brings together builders, designers, architects and water professionals to share best practices and brainstorm new ones through charrettes. Why retailers such as Target are powering up more EV charging infrastructure (from GreenBiz.com)

It’s not just Walmart that’s adding electric vehicle chargers. Electrify America, a subsidiary of Volkswagen, has announced that it’s building out electric car chargers at more than 100 locations including at retail giant Target, shopping center developer Brixmor and fueling outlet Sheetz. The news comes on the heels of an announcement that Walmart would double the number of EV chargers at its locations working with Electrify America. Read more.

Summer Undergraduate REU Opportunity, Grassland Field Ecology, Jornada LTER, Las Cruces, NM

The Sala Lab at Arizona State University is looking for motivated undergraduate students to participate in research activities in grassland ecosystem ecology during the summer of 2018. Successful applicants will work with graduate students, technicians and postdocs to assist with ongoing rainfall manipulation experiments, vegetation and soil sampling, and other field surveys at several field sites across the US. Additionally, participants have the opportunity to work with Sala Lab members and the PI to develop a personalized project. Deadline is May 1, 2018. More information.

 

Multi-State Salinity Coalition Student/Professor Scholarship to the 2019 MSSC Annual Salinity Summit

The MSSC will contribute $2,500 in value to the student/professor selected. Each applicant must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in water resources-related degree program. Students must be enrolled in a program relating to water resources for the 2018-2019 academic year. Application deadline is June 29, 2018. More information.
