          First Annual Sustainability Conference of American Legal Educators

(Friday, May 8, 2015) The inaugural keynote address will be given by Professor Daniel Etsy, Director of the Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy at Yale Law School. This extraordinary conference will feature panels and presentations from more than 60 law professors from throughout the United States and Canada, describing their latest research in a wide variety of sustainability-related fields.           World Wide Views on Climate and Energy

(Saturday, June 6, 2015) World Wide Views on Climate and Energy is a global citizen consultation, providing unique information about how far citizens around the world are willing to go, in order to deal with climate change and to bring forward an energy transition. Arizona State University (ASU) will be the location for one of four citizen forums being conducted in the United States. About 100 citizens, selected to reflect the demographic diversity in their countries or regions will attend daylong meetings, starting at dawn in the Pacific, and continuing until dusk in the Americas. Citizens will express their views on an identical set of questions, designed to reflect policy controversies at the global negotiations and political discussions about climate and energy in general. The results will be made available online and presented locally and globally to inform policymakers and negotiations leading up to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties (COP 21) taking place in Paris in December of 2015. Project partners for Arizona are the ASU Consortium for Science, Policy and Outcomes and the ASU Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiative. More information and how to participate.


          Democracy Conference 2015: By the People

(Thursday-Saturday, December 3-5, 2015) Arizona State University will be hosting a conference on participatory democracy, civic engagement and citizenship education. The event will be designed to share research findings, engage in provocative and meaningful discussions, learn from accomplishments and failures, and be inspired by innovative approaches, strategies, policies, tools and practices. The conference will bring together academics, students, practitioners, researchers, appointed and elected public officials, teachers, administrators, members of community organizations, and all those interested in participatory democracy, public engagement and citizenship education. The conference will combine academic presentations with practical workshops, We are interested in attracting theoretical and empirical contributions that are related to the three conference themes.           Phoenix Innovation Games Hackathon

(Friday-Saturday, May 16-17, 2015) The City of Phoenix and its Public Works Department are hosting the first-ever "Phoenix Innovation Games" with a hackathon at the Phoenix Convention Center, West Building, 200 level. The department hopes to come away with a skeleton for an app that would help residents recycle more, encourage them to divert more trash from the landfill and give them tips on how to be sustainable. There will be prizes for the winners and free food for participants. The City is looking for groups (max of 5) and individuals who love technology, who speak geek, who love to code and who care about the environment to help Phoenix divert more waste from the landfill. This is an opportunity to talk with industry professionals, network with some VIPs, meet awesome people and create something that could change our city!           8th Annual Conference of the Academy of Innovation and Entrepreneurship

(Thursday-Friday, August 20-21, 2015) Ryerson, Tsinghua and Oxford universities are pleased to announce that the 8th Annual Conference for the Academy of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (#AIE2015) will be held for the first time in Toronto, Canada. The AIE Conference was first held in 2008 at Tsinghua University in Beijing, consistently ranked as one of China's top institutions for higher learning, and has previously been hosted at the prestigious Oxford University in London, England. A truly international conference, the AIE has attracted more than 1,500 participants from more than 27 countries over the years. This year, conference participants will have the unique opportunity to experience Canada as an innovation nation.           Scholarship for LEED Green Associate Training

We are pleased to offer full-time Sustainability undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to prepare to earn LEED GA accreditation at an extremely reduced cost, thanks to the Stardust Center for Affordable Homes and the Family. Please read carefully below for details. The Del E. Webb School of Construction is sponsoring an all-day training session to prepare you to take the LEED Green Associate exam. What: Training with John Cribbs, Principal and Project Manager for Green Ideas. When: May 8, 2015 (8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.) at College Avenue Commons, Arizona State University at the Tempe campus. The Stardust Center for Affordable Homes and the Family at the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability will provide up to 10 scholarships to full-time School of Sustainability students. The scholarship will cover the registration cost of this training ($50). Contact Caroline Savalle with your interest: caroline.savalle@asu.edu. The first 10 applicants will be selected, though we will maintain a waiting list. Only full-time School of Sustainability Graduate or Undergraduates (graduating Spring 2015 or Fall 2015) are eligible. Students who aren't the first 10 applicants may still purchase a seat in the workshop. Stardust Green Associates Scholarship: Financial Support for LEED Green Associate Exam. The Stardust Center is also providing up to five scholarships to full-time School of Sustainability students to cover the exam costs to earn the certification. To apply: submit an essay (up to 500 words) explaining (1) how the certification will help further your professional goals, and (2) identify the date/testing location where you intend to take the exam. Also include your contact info; contact information for an ASU faculty mentor; year in school; relevant coursework; and current GPA (through Fall 2014). Students who receive the scholarship will be reimbursed for exam fees (up to $300) upon showing proof that they have passed the exam. Essays must be submitted via email to Jenny Carter (Jenny.Carter@asu.edu) by May 22, 2015 with a subject line: "Stardust LEED GA Exam Scholarship".
