Biography

Dr. Claire Lauer is a Professor of Technical Communication and the User Experience Architect for the Arizona Water Innovation Initiative. Her research investigates how people interact with and read data visualizations and how we effectively engage public audiences in learning about sustainability science and water policy.  She has also published on how we use language to describe changes in technology-mediated text production, how technology impacts idea-generation and creative thinking, and how the work of technical communicators has adapted within the ever-evolving workplace. She is the past chair of ACM’s Special Interest Group for the Design of Communication (SIGDOC) and serves as the Vice Chair of Operations on the SGB Executive Council of the Association for Computing Machinery.
