The ASU Center for Biodiversity Outcomes is partnering with the Natural Capital Coalition, Conservation International, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales to develop a Natural Capital Protocol for the Oceans.
The Natural Capital Protocol for the Oceans will be a framework to help businesses answer questions such as: How does your business depend upon ocean resources? How is this ocean natural capital changing and what risks and opportunities does this present? Which resources, information or expertise do you need?

As part of this initiative, a two-day workshop with sustainability experts will be held on January 31 and February 1, 2019 at ASU Tempe campus, to discuss and inform the scope and focus of this guidance, and to identify how to maximize its impact.
Workshop objectives:
- Discuss and reach agreement on key issues that will inform the overall focus and guidance provided;
- Engage the ASU community and partners to provide feedback and contribute to later development phases;
- Develop a strategy for a value proposition and technical wireframe for the NCP for the Oceans;
- Discuss communication strategy, engagement and next steps of project implementation.
