Throughout the spring 2019 semester, Arizona State University Center for Biodiversity Outcomes Founding Director and Professor Leah Gerber mentored Annelyse Basha, an eighth-grade student from Summit School of Ahwatukee.
Annelyse hopes to become a marine biologist and wanted to learn more about marine conservation, plastic pollution and educational outreach for her eight grade culminating project.
Throughout the semester, she represented CBO at educational outreach events, toured the Phoenix Public Works Transfer Stations with the ASU Conservation Innovation Lab, interviewed ASU graduate students about their research and presented her research at ASU.
To culminate this experience, Annelyse developed a video aimed to educate the public about the environmental threats associated with marine plastic pollution.
Annelyse will be presenting the video at her school on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 and to the Conservation Innovation Lab on Friday, April 19.
