The Service at Salado project runs after-school clubs in which schoolchildren learn about restoring a Sonoran Desert riparian area in the heart of Phoenix. Students participate in the Phoenix Rio Salado Project, a city program to revitalize the Salt River and provide a natural oasis accessible to city-dwellers.

The Phoenix Area Social Survey is an ongoing study of six Phoenix neighborhoods chosen to represent a range of geographic locations and socioeconomic backgrounds. It measures attitudes towards a variety of issues, ranging from feelings about the local and regional community to perspectives on the environment and the urban landscape.
